Self Reflection

As I'm finishing my last year in high school and in ready set teach, I feel that I have change so much. I like to think I've grown and matured thru out this year. Just like last year I have learned so much about children and how to handle a classroom. Being involved in this program has made me learn so much about myself. I felt that I couldn't do anything or even accomplish anything. I have always doubted my self but being in ready set teach gave me the encouragement that I needed and really wanted. This program has helped me gain good public speaking skills, because I would always get nervous in front of people and even children. Now I know that I can be a good public speaker in front of children and people. I feel that I am really good with interacting with children and connecting with them. I am so great up that I gained so much knowledge from my first year and second year. I am really sad that this will be my last year but I can't wait what the future holds from me.

The Rainbow Fish

I believe the book Rainbow fish should be taught to children of all ages. The book teaches children a valuable lesson, that beauty and arrogance does not always lead to happiness. It also teaches children that sharing good things with the people around you will make everyone happy. The rainbow fish had to learn this lesson by losing his fish friends, the children can learn this by hearing the rainbow fish story and learning from his mistakes. The book is also fun because rainbow fish scales have the shimmer effect. I would recommend this book to all elementary educators.

students with special needs

 Dealing with special need students is difficult but not impossible. For my site teacher it can be difficult at times to manage the classroom but she always finds different ways to deal with the special needs students. One way that she advises me to deal with special needs students is to find a resource like the special education department. That i should ask question of strategies that would be successful with the special needs students. In a classroom with special needs students you always have to find ways to modify activities and assessments. With a good management of a classroom all special-needs students are capable of success.

what is creativity?

What is creativity? well to me creativity means taking risk and ignoring doubt and facing fears. In education creativity means to find new ways of educating students in a fun way. In many cases there are teachers that don't let you express yourself. For example one of my English teacher in middle school did not let us express ourselves. In our writing she would tell us what to write on our essays, she wouldn't let us express ourselves in our writing. Until now the only teacher that expect us to actually be creative has been Ms.Wirth because she has taught us that to teach students you have to be creative. Creativity is important in education because you have to keep students and young children entertained.

The essential 55: chapters 44-55

Reading the last chapters 44-55, I saw two rules that stuck out to me the most. The first rule that I thought was one of the best is rule (50: be positive and enjoy life). I think rule 50 is a very inspiring, because mr.clark talks about two situations that makes him realize that we always have to keep moving forward and not let tough situations bother us. He told his story about when his mother was taking him and his sister to school and his car broke down. Mr.Clark's mother called his dad and he thought that his dad was going to get angry but instead he just laughed. His dad didn't let that get him down. P. 143 (They have never gotten negative or disgruntled over issues that are out of their control). Mr. Clark also talks about about another story. He told one of the administrator something that she took the wrong way. He called his mother for advice and she told him to write her a letter and also to call the administrator. So he wrote her a letter and called her. But the situation stayed the same. He called his mother again, and she said that their are things that we can't change and he couldn't let the situation bother him. P. 144 (take pressure off of ourselves, and move on). I feel like this rule is so inspiring because we can't last tough situation bother us p, we just have to move on and be happy. The second that stuck out to me is rule 55. Rule 55 says P. 158 ( be the best person you can be), this rule is one of my favorite from this book. In this rule Mr.Clark talks about how it is import to become the type of person you can be proud of. I feel like this rule is really important because it will help you become the person you want to be in life. It also talks about seven things that will help you in life. P.158 (laughter, family, adventure, good food, challeng, change, and the ques for knowledge.) Rule 55 doesn't come with a story but it is one of important ones because it give you good advice of how to be a better person. The 55 essential is such a life changing book.

Chapters 22-32

After reading chapters 22-32, the rules that stuck out to me the most was rule 22 and rule 24. Rule 22 talks about the reason Mr. Clark let his students have food in his classroom. I think that in every classroom the students be able to have at least a bottle of water in our classroom. Like Mr. Clark said having a bottle of water in your classroom can help prevent your students go and get water while you are giving a lesson. " I decided that I would just allow them to keep a bottle of water on their desk, and that way, I would not have kids getting up and down to get water all through my lesson". There should be a limit on having food and water in the classroom because most students do have a mess in their desk. Like Mr. Clarks story about his student Tamanda, she had all different kind of mess in her desk. "It was a hassle keeping that girl from making a mess, and finally I had to take her food privileges away". This rule shows that having food and water in the classroom is a good I idea but it should also have limits. 

The second rule that stuck out to me was rule number 24. Rule number 24 talks about how the students have to keep the restrooms and their selfs clean. I really like this rule because it is important for students to be clean and keep the restrooms clean. " you learn that if you want to survive you have to stop the germs where they start". Mr.clark mentions that when he first started teaching he noticed that the urinals in the boys restroom were never being flushed.  And how his boy students answered that they didn't want to touch the handle because it's nasty. "I don't want to touch the handle because it's nasty". It's is very important to have the restrooms clean because as a person no one wants to go in a dirty bathroom. " I reinforce the need to take care of your own business and not to leave it there for others to deal with. Rule number 24 I feel it is important because the students need to be clean. Essential 55 chapters 11-21

As I keep reading the essential 55, my understanding of why he wrote the rules for his students students to follow are making more sense. After reading chapters 11-21 it made me realize that it is very important for students to follow these rules. One of my favorite rule from chapter 11-21 is rule number 11. Rule number 11 is "surprise others by performing random acts of kindness". (P.29) I really like the story behind this rule because Ron Clark parents were constantly giving him surprises for him and his sister. "I remember how seeing them go out of their way to do kind and unexpected things for us made me feel so special and loved". (P.30) Doing things for other will make you feel like a better person. "I think we should all try to capture that type of exitment by giving some type of surprise, whether it is large or small, as often as possible". (P.42)
Another rule that I think is also very important is rule number 18. Rule number 18 says "you will make every effort to be as organized as possible". (P.62) Personally for me rule number 18 is really hard to follow because I'm not a very organized person. But what I like that Ron Clark said about this rule is that he had one student that would have clutter in his desk, but the students always had everything Mr. Clark ask for. "I taught one student in Harlem, named Marvin, who rivaled me in terms of clutter, but he always managed to have whatever I asked of him right at the tips of his fingers". (P.63) Even if Ron's Clark student have everything in the tip of his fingers, it is always better to stay organized. Being organized helps especially the students to be more organized. "The main thing I learned from that year is that my students enjoyed being organized, and they appreciate the system". (P.55) As I keep reading the book I look forward to read the rest of Ron Clark's essential 55.

Essential 55 chapter 1-10

When I first saw the essential 55 rules did not make any sense to me. On why would he expected the students to follow these rules. After reading the first 10 chapters it started to make sense on why he expected that every student had to follow the first 10 rules. The first 10 rules where very interesting, but the one that stuck out to me the most, had to be rule number one. "I feel it is one of the most important of all rules, because it sets the tone for the type of respect I expect from my students". (P.1) As I was reading rule number one and the story behind it, i realized it was one of the most important rule. Rule number one talks about how to respond to adults. "Simply by telling them you want them to address you by saying "sir" let's them know the way you expect them to treat you". (P1) The story he told about how his students had an interviewed for a chance to attend a high-rated junior high school, and how he always stressed out that, to make sure they say 'yes ma'am' or 'no sir'. " I practice what the interview would be like with my students, and one main thing I stressed was, Make sure you say 'yes ma'am' or 'no sir' no matter what!" (P.2) I think that rule number one will help you get really far in life. " I was delighted to hear that all twelve of my students had been accepted". (P.2) "it seems like just such a simple thing to do, but it gets result". (P.2)

Are school built for learning

Watching Will Richardson TED talk I've learned that schools are built for learning. Having a a secure and comfortable environment makes you want to learn. An ideal learning environment for students is to feel confident and comfortable. Having a comfortable learning environment will make students feel eager to learn each day. I feel that classes should be just 30 min long because kindergarten children have a short extension span. I will have students work together in groups to evaluate how they work with other and if they do their work.

What constitutes an effective discipline plan

Having an effective discipline plan is important to have in your classroom because the students will know how to behave in the classroom. An effective discipline plan comes from clarity, consistency, communication, caring and creative. Clarity will help to be clear when as a teacher you set rules and limits. Consistency will help to be consistent on enforcing the rules and their limits. Communication will help for the students to be more open on the rules. Caring will help by using encouragement for the students to follow the rules. Creating the rules with the students will help by both students and teachers agreeing with the discipline plan. A effective discipline plan will help understand what students need to accomplish on their behavior.

The role of a teacher is to UNCOVER

1. Manny students do not complete their assignments because they don't understand what they are supposed to do on the assignment they are assigned. 
2. Both, what you are going to cover and what you want the students to learn are the same thing. The things you have to cover in your class are the things the students have to learn. 
3. Teachers and students spend most of the class time on the textbooks and that can be a mind-numbing environment for the students. Textbooks sometimes don't help to teach the objectives. 
4. I think that both teacher and students benefit from using objectives. The objectives are what assign and assess. " objectives are what a student must achieve to accomplish what the teacher state is to be learned, comprehended, or mastered". 
5. The goal of a test is to see where the students understandin are at. 
6. Mastery is when the student shows the ability to use what has been comprehended. Mastery has taken place when you see a student use or apply what he or she understands. The student can also break down, reorganize, and evaluate what is known and understood. 
7. Grades are important to students learning and their achievements. Because if they get good grades they will feel accomplished. "Focusing on goals or objectives makes the most difference in students achievement". 
8. Print correct letter shape, size, spacing, and smoothness. 
9. How do you write the letter "A"? 
10. I think that standardized state testing is wrong because many students feel bad when they don't pass the test.

Consequences

Having an effective discipline plan in the classroom is important because students will know what behavior is expected from them. As a educator you will have firm confident in your ability to manage a class of you have a clear idea of what you expect from your students and they know that is what you expect from them. It will be easier to maintain good behavior in the classroom. Having consequences in the classroom helps students behave better. Consequence will help students know how far the can go in the way they act. Student need to feel that someone is in control of their environment. Having consequence will have the students behave better in the classroom.

Picture book month

Picture books are is an important factor in a classroom because it helps relate human experience to academic concepts and address complex issues and content. Picture books can address both heart and standards. They can serve as a celebration and call-to-action to springboard your own ideas. Picture books are valuable resources witch connect students with content that inspire their humanity. We can use picture books to come up with classroom activities, like a readers theater. Students can be cast as the characters and have the students to read the books dialogue. Picture books will always be wonderful tools for teaching story structure, key ideas, and details.

Classroom management And discipline

Having discipline and a well managed classroom will make you an effective teacher. Teachers with good classroom management are able to maximize students engaging time and academic learning time. Students also want a well-managed classroom because a well-managed classroom gives student security. A well-managed classroom will have students that are deeply involved with their work, especially with academic, teacher-led instructions. Discipline is a also an important part in a well-managed classroom. The most successful classrooms are those in which the teachers have discipline and a clear idea of what is expected from the students and the student have a clear idea of what the teacher expect from them.

Welcoming Students

Welcoming of students to the classroom on the first day is important because students will arrive with mix emotions. Students will always tend to feel very anxious about starting school. However, you can do a lot to ensure that the classroom is safe and welcoming for the students on the first day of school. Like Mr.Wong said, "you will attract better students, have a minimum of problems on the first day of school , and generally be much happier with your job". Its always also good to have smile on your face on the first day of school. "Have a smile on your face, hands ready to shake the students' hands, and a look that says you can't wait to meet them." Welcoming students is the most important part to having a successful year.

Teachers Reputation

As a teacher you will always have different opinions on how you teach and how your are. It is always important to present your self in a professional way to protect your reputation as a teacher.
My government teacher is a good example that teachers have reputations. His previous students would always say that he was one of the most difficult teachers they had. Going into his class I thought I will never pass the class. Now that I have him as a teacher I don't believe that he is a difficult teacher.

Governing students learning

Governing students learning is very important in a well-managed classroom. Students will be deeply involved with their work, especially with academic, teacher-led instruction. They will know what is expected of them, and their will be relatively little wasted time, confusion, or disruption. "A will managed classroom is a task-oriented environment where students know what is expected of them and how to succeed".

Field Site Experience

My experience at sites have been amazing. These past two weeks I have connected with all the children in my class, especially with one particular student. He is a vary active and sweet boy. Every single day I get exited to see him because, he always makes me laugh, and every single day is different. He makes the time in sites pass by so fast. Just the experience I am having with him makes me look forward to this year.
